5 things we learned from the Dallas Cowboys' preseason opener

Even though Dez Bryant, DeMarcus Ware and Sean Lee didnt provide any highlights or play at all, Sunday nights preseason opener wasnt without storylines. The Dallas Cowboys played reserves for the majority of the night and the games biggest play was made by outside linebacker DeVonte Holloman, a sixth-round draft pick in April.

In case you missed the game, here are five stories from the Cowboys 24-20 win over the Miami Dolphins.

1.) Tony Romo spent a few minutes doing a sideline interview in the fourth quarter. Romos contract extension was mentioned and the Cowboys franchise quarterback made it clear that the amount of time he spends at Valley Ranch was not part of the discussion.

2.) Jerry Jones has been a big fan of offensive guard Ronald Leary since Jones signed him as an undrafted rookie free agent last year. After Learys strong showing Sunday night, Jones said he would be comfortable with Leary starting at left guard during the season opener next month at AT&T Stadium.

3.) Cowboys rookie wide receiver Terrance Williams was held out of the game but he said its not because he has a concussion. The third-round pick also said he expects to play against the Oakland Raiders on Friday night.

4.) Cowboys defensive end George Selvie was the Cowboys MVP of the preseason opener. Selvie recorded two sacks and showed that Dallas might have some depth on the defensive line after all.

5.) Safety J.J. Wilcox has been one of the most impressive rookies during training camp, however, he played too soft in coverage at times on Sunday night, showing he still has a long way to go in his transition from Georgia Southern standout to NFL starter.
