On Sept. 25, Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, NY went under lockdown at approximately 10:45 a.m. after a man fired two shots in a building nearby, then fled the scene heading toward the mall.
While shoppers inside the mall were permitted to leave out of a designated area, the employees at Roosevelt Field Mall were left shook up and worried after the shooting that left one dead and one seriously injured nearby.
Garden City Shooting: Roosevelt Field Mall Managers ReactAfter the scary shooting happened in a building adjacent to Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, New York, the mall went under lockdown. Store managers are revealing toHollywoodLife.comthat they were left unsure what was actually going on.
Kristen, assistant manager at BCBG said:
Police made us close the mall and our stores as a precautionary measure.The shooting, from what I know, didnt happen at the mall, ithappened I think around BJs, in that areas across the street from themall.All the employees here have been stuck inside the store for hours andhave been weve all been looking at on cells for information andtalking to our family and friends letting them know were all rightand fine.
Kristen continued, explaining that when the mall first went under lockdown, police were swarming the mall:
Its very calm inside the mall. The police are all outside the mall.When everything first happened, the police came inside, in groups oftwo, and walked around the mall with guns drawn to make sureeverything was ok for a while. No one could go in or out. Now, wereable to leave the mall through one check point as a group with apolice escort and were about to leave any minute. Its calm now, butof course everyone was on edge when this first happened. Ive heard that one person died. So sad.
An employee fromArmani Exchange added, All the employees are here andwere safe.
The spokesperson for the Roosevelt Field Mall told us:
The shooting did not take place on Roosevelt Fields property, that was confirmed by the police. They did a press conference that went into the details of who the shooter was. At approximately 10:45 a.m, the mall was put on lockdown so that means no one was permitted in or out of the property. Just around12:30 p.m., they lifted the directive to have shoppers inside the property and anyone that wanted to leave was directed to do so. The mall is closed to the public currently and not sure when it will re-open and that will be determined by the Nassau County Police Department.
Suspect Shot Victims After Disgruntlement With CompanyPolice are currently searching forthe suspect, 63-year-oldSang Ho Kim, who shot two people at a lighting company, Nassau County police reported.
Chief of DepartmentSteven Skrynecki revealed that the motive behind the shooting was disgruntlement between him and the company.
Police do not believe he is a threat to the general public but said he is a very dangerous individual, Skrynecki added. He is believed to be armed.
