Cassidy Wolf has "mixed feelings" about the arrest of former classmate Jared James Abrahams, who confessed to federal investigators on Thursday to blackmailing and extorting the reigning Miss Teen USA. Wolf appeared on NBC's Today on Friday, Sept. 27, where she opened up about how it felt to have someone break into her computer, remotely turn on her webcam and watch her most intimate moments.

"My computer light never came on, so I wasn't aware. This person had been taking pictures of me in my room, changing clothes from putting on outfits, walking back and forth from the shower," Wolf recalled. "I received an anonymous email from an anonymous person [who] basically was extorting me and blackmailing me. I saw that he had attached nude photos of me that he had taken in my bedroom."

Wolf alerted the authorities, who subsequently launched an investigation. Abrahamsa 19-year-old college student studying computer sciencewas formally charged on Thursday, Sept. 26. Investigators found evidence of hacking software as well of images and videos of the victim. He is out on $50,000 bail and has been placed on house arrest; he can only leave to attend church, school, doctor's appointments and meetings with his lawyer.

"This happened to me when I was a normal girl in high school and it can happen to anybody," said Wolf.

NEWS: Get all the details on Jared James Abrahams' arrest

Crowned in August, Wolf said she's not sure how to feel about Abrahams' confession. "It's weird for me to be able to put a face to the person who did this to me, and to know that it was somebody I went to high school with," she said. "That's just weird. It's mixed emotions, honestly."

While she's "relieved" that Abrahams has been identified, she also feels pity for her former classmate. "I just think it's sad that he chose to do this and has now kind of put himself in this big dilemma," the 19-year-old said.

"I don't think he realizes the consequences that he's done and the people that he hurt," she added, noting that she "never had any interactions" with Abrahams in high school. "He terrorized me and many girls for so long." Abraham's attorneys have argued that he has mental health issues; his family has issued an apology.

Wolf hopes that by sharing her experience, it will help give other victims the courage to "tell somebody" about similar incidents. "I know some of the girls who were involved in the case didn't have the opportunity to talk to law enforcement and to get help," she said, "so it makes me feel really good that I was able to help them out, as well as other people who could be going through the same thing."

Mariano Rivera: A Zen Master With a Mean Cutter

In a game in which perfection is elusive, he was reliably sublime.

In the high-stress vocation of ninth-inning pitching dominated by theatrical personalities, he was the embodiment of Zen calm a cool Jedi master among the hotheads, and an almost extraplanetary source of composure and grace in the gritty, often chaotic world of Major League Baseball.

He was the reliever who arrived to the strains of Metallicas Enter Sandman, a closer who dependably delivered closure turning out the lights on the leagues best hitters, shutting almost every door. He was feared as the Yankees silent killer, their one infallible weapon Mr. Automatic. But he was also the one member of the Evil Empire so respected by enemy fans that he was feted, in this, his final year, in other ballparks across the country, including Fenway Park in Boston, where he was hailed as a real gentleman, a fierce competitor and a most worthy opponent.

Mariano Rivera understood what Steve Jobs, Lao Tzu and Bruce Lee understood: that simplicity is an art and a strength, a source of joy and beauty and power. The greatest closer of all time, who could become the first player to win unanimous election to the Hall of Fame, did it all with basically one pitch: the cut fastball. It moved with such velocity and wizardry that it seemed to defy the laws of physics, breaking hundreds of bats and shattering many more dreams. It was a pitch delivered with easy elegance and brutal economy, a pitch Rivera could tailor with such precision and infinitude of detail that it flummoxed even the most canny and experienced batters.

It was also a pitch that underscored an almost perfect fusion of character and style. As Yankees Manager Joe Girardi has pointed out, baseball is what the deeply religious Rivera does, its not who he is. But who Rivera is a consummate professional, stoic, focused, dedicated and at peace with himself has indelibly imprinted the way he has gone about the job: his unparalleled consistency and longevity, his grace under pressure, and his ability to come back from adversity, be it a blown save or his potentially devastating ligament tear in 2012.

Over the years, the arithmetic of Riveras career has been dazzling: 652 regular-season saves, including 44 this season through Friday at age 43. His postseason numbers have been even more stunning: 42 saves, with a mind-boggling 0.70 earned run average in 141 innings. The Yankees would not have won five championships from 1996 to 2009 without him; he got the final outs in the last four of those World Series.

But math alone cannot communicate Marianos achievement, his almost otherworldly control of the ball, or his aura as a great warrior, gentleman and mensch. Colleagues, fans and journalists have struggled to find words to convey his accomplishments, and his heart and soul and will his steely determination on the mound and his humor and charm off the field.

ABCs Robin Roberts observed that it was rarer to score an earned run off Rivera in the postseason than to walk on the moon. The former Mets manager Bobby Valentine once said: No one else throws a 94-mile-an-hour cutter. Its like bird watching in a foreign land. You cant understand it. Riveras teammate David Robertson, who may inherit his job, called him the most consistent human being to ever play the game of baseball.

One baseball analyst attributed Riveras success to the three Cs control, control, control. Another attributed it to the four Cs confidence, concentration, control and competitiveness. To which a Yankees fan might add even more alliteration: constancy, calm, class, composure, continuity and complete command of craft.

People have compared Rivera to Michael Jordan and Wayne Gretzky to convey his soaring talent and just how indispensable he has been to his team. Explaining Riveras mystique goads others to reach for analogies outside sports to describe the indescribable, comparing his artistry to that of famous musicians and painters, his tenacity and mental toughness to that of Navy SEALs, his sleight of hand to the legerdemain of a Harry Potter or Houdini.

Rivera himself was succinct and to the point about his job: I get the ball, I throw the ball, and then I take a shower.

For fans who grew up watching No. 42 or have followed him for the last 19 seasons, he has become the embodiment of the Yankees at their very best: not the big-spending, patched-together All-Star team that chased after the likes of Randy Johnson, Gary Sheffield and Kevin Brown, but the team that Rivera, along with Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte, Jorge Posada and Bernie Williams, defined. The team always came first for these homegrown Yankees, and they played with brotherly dedication and collective pride.

Riveras retirement is a melancholy moment for the Yankees and their fans. Williams retired in 2006, Posada last played in 2011, and Pettitte was scheduled to pitch his final game Saturday. Jeter will be the only one to return next year and to a team in need of reimagining and rebuilding, and possibly fated to some long years in the baseball wilderness.

That the beloved and seemingly ageless Sandman is exiting this year not only means the end of a golden era, but also reminds us of the swift and unrelenting passage of time. The perfect ending everyone yearned for after the Rivera tribute last Sunday at Yankee Stadium was a win for Andy and a save for Mariano, but that was not to be. And yet, the larger narrative of Riveras career remains a storybook one.

The son of a fisherman, he grows up playing baseball on a beach in Panama with a milk carton for a glove, a stick for a bat and whatever was available for a ball; after being signed by a Yankees scout for $3,500, he does his apprenticeship in the minors, joins the Yankees and struggles at first, and then suddenly hits his stride. He wins a championship in 1996 as the setup man for John Wetteland and, soon, leaps into hyperspace as the closer, becoming such a feared adversary that opponents will talk about needing to win games against the Yankees in seven or eight innings before he takes the mound.

In the last month or so, the pace of Rivera tributes has accelerated, within baseball and the news media, and also among fans on Twitter and Facebook, on radio call-in shows, and even in an AT&T-sponsored Thanks for the Mo-Ments promotion. They recite Riveras luminous stats, cite songs (like Nat King Coles Unforgettable or Jeff Buckleys Last Goodbye) they would dedicate to him, and trade memories of his clutch performances: those emotional World Series wins; Game 7 of the 2003 American League Championship Series against the Red Sox (won in 11 innings by Aaron Boones home run); his record- setting 602nd save with a perfect ninth inning against the Minnesota Twins in September 2011.

Such outpourings of love are a testament to the intimate and deeply felt karmic relationship that has developed over two decades between Rivera and Yankee fans, and New York City a relationship that has been heightened, perhaps, by his job as the closer. No one has been more of a team player than the humble and loyal Rivera, and yet his was a strangely solitary job: taking the field not alongside his teammates but alone, at the end, with the heavy responsibility of saving the game for them all.

The photographs and videos of Rivera running toward the mound from the bullpen shot from behind, No. 42 starkly outlined on his impeccably crisp pinstripes have given way to similar images (in newspapers, and on T-shirts and souvenir pins) showing him striding not into the electric blur of Yankee Stadium but into some less immediately recognizable realm. Jogging into the future and retirement. And through the gates of Cooperstown and into the forever of history.

Roosevelt Field Mall Employees React To Shooting Nearby

On Sept. 25, Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, NY went under lockdown at approximately 10:45 a.m. after a man fired two shots in a building nearby, then fled the scene heading toward the mall.

While shoppers inside the mall were permitted to leave out of a designated area, the employees at Roosevelt Field Mall were left shook up and worried after the shooting that left one dead and one seriously injured nearby.

Garden City Shooting: Roosevelt Field Mall Managers React

After the scary shooting happened in a building adjacent to Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, New York, the mall went under lockdown. Store managers are revealing toHollywoodLife.comthat they were left unsure what was actually going on.

Kristen, assistant manager at BCBG said:

Police made us close the mall and our stores as a precautionary measure. The shooting, from what I know, didnt happen at the mall, ithappened I think around BJs, in that areas across the street from themall. All the employees here have been stuck inside the store for hours andhave been weve all been looking at on cells for information andtalking to our family and friends letting them know were all rightand fine.

Kristen continued, explaining that when the mall first went under lockdown, police were swarming the mall:

Its very calm inside the mall. The police are all outside the mall. When everything first happened, the police came inside, in groups oftwo, and walked around the mall with guns drawn to make sureeverything was ok for a while. No one could go in or out. Now, wereable to leave the mall through one check point as a group with apolice escort and were about to leave any minute. Its calm now, butof course everyone was on edge when this first happened. Ive heard that one person died. So sad.

An employee fromArmani Exchange added, All the employees are here andwere safe.

The spokesperson for the Roosevelt Field Mall told us:

The shooting did not take place on Roosevelt Fields property, that was confirmed by the police. They did a press conference that went into the details of who the shooter was. At approximately 10:45 a.m, the mall was put on lockdown so that means no one was permitted in or out of the property. Just around12:30 p.m., they lifted the directive to have shoppers inside the property and anyone that wanted to leave was directed to do so. The mall is closed to the public currently and not sure when it will re-open and that will be determined by the Nassau County Police Department.

Suspect Shot Victims After Disgruntlement With Company

Police are currently searching forthe suspect, 63-year-oldSang Ho Kim, who shot two people at a lighting company, Nassau County police reported.

Chief of DepartmentSteven Skrynecki revealed that the motive behind the shooting was disgruntlement between him and the company.

Police do not believe he is a threat to the general public but said he is a very dangerous individual, Skrynecki added. He is believed to be armed.

We will keep you posted on the details as they come out.

Bienfang 9 x 12 Inches Calligraphic Practice Paper Pad (ANCP145) Buyer Reviews

Bienfang 9 x 12 Inches Calligraphic Practice Paper Pad (ANCP145) Buyer Reviews
So, I ask you, what can be better then 1 practice pad? How about many! At .99 each how could you only buy one! I tell you what, normally I am a believer in you get what you pay for. So being so inexpensive I was quite curious as to what would be arriving in the mail. When they arrived I was impressed. I haven't counted all the pieces but I would estimate it to be 50 sheets per pad. Nicely spaced and well made. This product as served me well. As a practice pad this is the best product you could ever buy!*****EDIT*****Changed my review score from 5 to 1 because of the price jump. 9 dollars is way too much for this item. Looks like someone likes to rip off customers.
    - V-ret

I bought this pad with a relatively cheap Calligraphy pen set, and a Calligraphy book. It is a great aid when learning to write - the guidelines are very useful!
    - DianasaurusRex "Diana"

it good for a first timer im new to calligraphy but this pad was my first and i will order another
    - laralyn

Very easy to work with for the beginner (me) and delivered very quickly. Since I am a beginner, I am using them rather fast, so I will be ordering them again.
    - Anonymous "Anonymous"

This pad is great for learning the slant for the Italic hand. I wish there was an introduction on how to use this pad because other calligraphers have found it hard to use. However, I was blessed to have Carrie Imai who has mastered the Italic hand to show me how to use the pad through her correspondences Italic class through the mail. This pad is a great tool for anyone who is having problems obtaining consistent slant in their Italic Calligraphy.
    - PenandInk "Calligrapher"

Great for beginners that are just learning as the lines are really big. There was no cover on my pad, but it wasn't too hard to figure out which way it went.
    - Meredith Russell "Pirate Bride"

This paper is the perfect weight for practicing lettering. It's perfect for beginners and for practicing the basics due to the heavy weight of the paper. You won't experience smudges or bleeding. This is not tracing paper and doesn't have lines. So if you're a brand new calligrapher you may want to stick to practicing with lined paper and tracing paper.
    - ChemTeach2005

This is a great product for me, the beginner. I used it in a class and saved a lot of time that would have been spent ruling off a sheet of plain paper and the ink doesn't seep through so I can use the back side of the paper if I choose at a later time.
    - A. Linskey

Ideal and a must for practice. I purchased this as a gift, along with beginner's pens and books. The practice pad allows for the right angles and heights for large and small letters. A must-have for anyone who does calligraphy !
    - Pennie Young

It's a simple practice pad, very useful if you have another book teaching you how to write calligraphy. It saves me a whole lot of time drawing out pencil guide lines.Only wish if they have it in different grid sizes.

Grafix 16-Inch by 24-Inch Incredible Art Board Recent Reviews

Grafix 16-Inch by 24-Inch Incredible Art Board Recent Reviews
I staple it, tape it, and with another great review on this board, learned you can clean off gummed tape by running luke-warm water over it and using your hand or a light sponge or cloth to dissolve the glue. I've used it front and back at the same time and had no problems. I highly recommend this to stretch watercolor paper.
    - A. Rippey "A. Rippey"

I was hoping that this would be perfect for stretching half sheets of Arches Cold Pressed watercolor paper, since it seems to be what it's made for, but it's just slightly to thin. It IS exactly 16" wide, but the Arches, with the deckle, comes in at about 16.25". I'll probably wind up cutting it down for smaller sheets.
    - Byron Taylor "BTSculptor"

This board nice and lightweight. The corners tend to get crushed a bit, but it does not affect anything. I recommend it.
    - Judy A. Funk

I wanted an art board to take to classes so it had to be lightweight and sturdy. This board fills the bill. It cleans up nicely, and holds any size paper I will work with. And the price was right. I'm happy with it.
    - Dotti

I have 3 of these boards and have been using them for about 10 years for all my watercolor stretching. They are wonderfully lightweight, but very sturdy. I use paper tape to stretch my paper on them, cut carefully when done, and the tape cleans off nicely with water and a gentle sponge or cloth. Love these boards! Wouldn't be without them.
    - ladyrach14

The board is very light and easy to use. A solid surface for painting. I use it for watercoloring. It is so light that it makes transporting it a breeze.
    - Kirby Wood

I love this board. The size gives me a great surface and space for painting indoors and out as an amateur and beginner painter. Also it's nice and sturdy though weightless/
    - lucinda riddlebarger

This was just the ticket. It meets all my expectations and beyond. It takes a lot of abuse and is solid as a rock. I love that it's lightweight and extremely durable. I would recommend it highly to any watercolor artist!

Fredrix 3500 Canvas Pads, 9 by 12-Inch Shopper Reviews
While it's not my favourite canvas paper on the market, it's certainly very nice for student grade acrylics. I would recommend any painting student stock up on these for practices and studies instead of canvas panels or stapled canvas.
    - Eve

I used this canvas pad in a painting class and it saved me so much money. What a great way to try out your idea, on canvas, and not spend a fortune. I liked it so much, I bought some pads as gifts to give to upcoming artists. These canvas are not just for practice. I should also say that you can frame these as well. Easy to store. I was using the large framed canvas at first. Very hard to store as we don't always want to display all of our art. A must have!

This is a canvas that we used to place a decal on to make the decal more 'artsy'. We used charcoal on the canvas and then places the decal to be more antique. The only problem with this canvas is the packaging. It came in a box that was almost 4xs as big. If you live in a place where they won't have a place to leave such a large package beware! It is SUPER light and took two nails to hang on the wall. I get nervous hanging things up because I'm afraid they will ruin the walls.

Royal & Langnickel Soft-Grip White Taklon Filbert Brush: Size 4 Recent Review

Royal & Langnickel Soft-Grip White Taklon Filbert Brush: Size 4 Recent Review
You can't find a better price on a similar brush. One of the most important factors of a paint brush, to me, is the bristle retention. (I have no idea what it's actually called - but that's what I call it.) You know, the rate at which the bristles come out. I absolutely hate it when I spend most of my time picking hairs out of a painting, rather than painting. This is a major factor with cheaper brushes. This brush has very good bristle retention. I lost more bristles while cleaning the brush than I did while painting - and even then, it wasn't a noticeable amount. I've used this brush countless times since purchasing it, and it's still one of the favorites I always reach for. I am very hard on brushes, so I don't spend a lot of money on them. Since I use them for mixed media, there's no telling what I'll expect from them - their use certainly isn't limited to painting! This brush spreads glues, watercolors, acrylics, gauche, and ink, equally well. I'm sure it doesn't perform like a $50 brush - but I wouldn't know for sure, since I wouldn't ever purchase a $50 brush. I have to recommend it, since it stands up to my abuse - which says something. :)

RENDR No Show Thru Paper- 8.5x11 Inch Hardcover Sketchbook User Reviews
Love this book because absolutely nothing bleeds through the pages, even spray paint. I will continue to buy these books because I can use any medium and it will not bleed at all, not even to the other side of the page.
    - LadyLeutwyler

In 28 years of illustration and sketchbooks, this is the first, truly no-bleed paper that I have found that stands up to alcohol based markers beautifully. Watercolors won't bleed either but the paper will wrinkle with some water based media. It's the first sketchbook where I can actually used both sides of the paper without the previous drawing showing through.I immediately purchased another hardbound sketchbook as well as 2@ 9x12 tear out paper pads so I could make smaller/odd sized sketchbooks to carry with me.The paper seems to have a slightly weird, but not altogether unpleasant odor. If chemical smells bother you, you probably wouldn't be using alcohol based markers anyway but I just thought I'd add that info since it may put some people off. I don't mind it.
    - Trickylew "filmaddict"

Okay, so I bought mine at a local shop, but I have to let everyone know how amazing these are. I have had this now (I have both, the large and the small) and keep the larger on in my art bag. My notebooks have always been battered in the first few weeks, and have to be covered with duck tape, but these covers are very durable, and as of yet don't show much wear. Also, I like really juicy markers and water colors, and it is a real money saver to be able to use both sides of every page, and not to have to rip any out because they got all speckled from the page before. The paper is smooth and thick, but not like a card stock. I don't know how it works, but it is amazing. I could not be any happier.
    - BeckyDJD "BeckyDJD"

Though it's true that color does not bleed through, the paper is low grade and does not hold up to water-based inks and sprays. When wet, the paper crinkled and curled, and, in some areas, disintegrated. Maybe it should be marketed as appropriate only for alcohol and solvent inks.

The Big Bang Theory actor Bob Newhart gets standing ovation at Emmy awards

Stand-up comedian and actor Bob Newhart got a standing ovation at the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Newhart, 84, won the best guest actor in a comedy series award for his stint in sitcom The Big Bang Theory. He collected his statuette to a standing ovation at the Creative Arts portion of the Emmys on September 15, but the audience stood up for him again here Sunday when he came to present the outstanding writing for a variety series award.

He was accompanied by his The Big Bang Theory co-star Jim Parsons, who won the lead actor award for the show.

In the past, Newhart was nominated seven times for the Emmys and this is his first win.

He came to prominence in the 1960s when his album of comedic monologues The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart became a worldwide bestseller. He then appeared in situation comedies like The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart.

In the run for the guest actor trophy, he defeated Nathan Lane from Modern Family, Bobby Cannavale from Nurse Jackie, Louis CK from Saturday Night Live, Justin Timberlake from Saturday Night Live and Will Forte from 30 Rock.

The guest actress in a comedy series trophy was won by actress Melissa Leo for Louie.

The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards was hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

Heritage Artist Palette Size: 18 Purchaser Review

Heritage Artist Palette Size: 18 Purchaser Review
I became aware of this palette when it was described by one of my favorite watercolorists, Brenda Swenson. So when I needed a new palette for the field, I bought it and filled it with my pigments. I have used it in the field 3 times now, and it has worked well.It is sturdily made, with thick plastic, not the all-too-usual thin variety. It closes tight enough to prevent any wet watercolor from leaking out during transport. 18 to me is a good number of pigments for painting just about anything (though I usually select 3-6 of them for any given painting). There's plenty of mixing room, especially with a portable palette--most have considerably less. And it's light and compact, fits into my field day backpack easily. It will be going to the field with me for onsite sketching all through Summer and Fall (until the next rainy season around November here in the Pacific Norhtwest--though I'll go out then too but less frequently).Highly recommended.

Author Eric Schlosser: Hydrogen bomb almost detonated in North Carolina in 1961

(CBS News) A newly disclosed document reveals a U.S. hydrogen bomb almost detonated near Goldsboro, N.C., back in 1961.

According to a new book by the author Eric Schlosser - "Command and Control" - that near-miss is not an isolated event. In fact, far from it.

"The Pentagon has issued an official list of broken arrows - of serious weapon accidents that could threaten the public - and there are 32 accidents on that list," said Schlosser. "I found that 32 is actually a small fraction of the number of accidents that occurred. One document that I obtained from the Sandia National Laboratory, which is one of our big weapons laboratories, listed 1,200 nuclear weapons involved in accidents or incidents that threatened the safety between 1950 and 1968."

Schlosser described some of those incidents as "relatively trivial," others more serious.

"There were nuclear accidents that weren't as dramatic as a plane crash or a missile exploding that were actually very dangerous," he said.

(Watch at left the full interview with Eric Schlosser)

The closest the nation has come in the last 60 years to a major disaster was in January 1961, Schlosser said.

"There was a B-52 bomber that started leaking fuel," he said. "While it was preparing emergency landing, there was a weight imbalance, and the plane started to break apart mid-air. There were two hydrogen bombs on the plane, and as the plane was breaking apart mid-air there were so many wires that if one of those wires had crossed with the arming wire of the bomb, there would have been a full-scale detonation of this hydrogen bomb in North Carolina. There would have been huge firestorms, and the lethal radioactive fallout could have extended as far north as Washington, D.C."

In his book, Schlosser doesn't just document close calls in the past, but he says that this is a problem that continues to confront the country now.

"The Defense Science Board issued a report just this year saying that our nuclear command-and-control system might be vulnerable to being hacked," he said.

Even if the United States gets its act together in terms of command and control, there's a world out there that does not adhere to the same standards.

"The greatest threat that we face in a short-term sense in the world is the use of a nuclear weapon," said Schlosser. "Our controls and our systems are superior to that of any other nation, but when you look at the long list of accidents and near-misses that we've had, despite our expertise, it gives you enormous pause about other countries like Pakistan, India, North Korea having nuclear weapons."

Amazon's first CFO Joy Covey dies in bicycle accident

The tech entrepreneur who oversaw the online retailer's massive expansion and masterminded its IPO has passed away at age 50.

    September 19, 2013 6:11 PM PDT

A self-made woman, tech entrepreneur, and intellectual powerhouse, Joy Covey died in a bicycle accident on Wednesday. She served as Amazon's first chief financial officer and was instrumental in making the massive e-commerce company what it is today.

Covey was 50 years old when she collided with a van on a rural road in San Mateo County, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

"It's a very sad day for Amazon," Amazon spokesperson Mary Osako told CNET. "Joy was a wonderful human being and treasured colleague, and we will miss her very much."

At the time of her death, Covey was working as the treasurer for the environmental group National Resources Defense Council. But, she had a long history working in the tech sector -- and she got there using her quick intellect and determined work ethic.

In an interview with the Harvard Law Bulletin in 2002, Covey talked about how she dropped out of high school, left home when she was 15, and went to work as a grocery clerk. Shortly afterward, at 17, she decided to go to college, graduating in two and a half years from Fresno State. She then went on to get dual law and MBA degrees at Harvard in 1989.

By the time Covey joined Amazon as its CFO in 1996, she had already worked as the CFO of the digital-audio startup Digidesign. At Amazon, Covey oversaw the company's financial boom, international expansion, and various features on the site such as the video and music store launches. She also masterminded the company's initial public offering in 1997.

"A lot of things we did were things that hadn't been done before, or situations that had never been dealt with," Covey told the Harvard Law Bulletin. "Rather than asking ourselves, 'How has this been done in the past? What's the answer to this question?' we said, 'Where do we want to go and what are our goals?'"

Covey left Amazon in April 2000 to focus on her family, travel, and environmental issues. Besides working for the National Resources Defense Council, Covey also established the Beagle Foundation, which gives funding to environmental causes.

quite nice for an inexpensive starter set, After looking in stores, was happy this was as nice as it was at such a great price
    - SHELLM1

I bought this for my Niece - I wouldn't buy this for adults but for little kids I think it is great and a will hopefully get them interested in new and different things like painting and later hopefully music. - this product arrived on time as well and she was very excited when it came in its own case.
    - Tyler Stewart

It is hard to wait to give him this as I hope he will be as excited as I am just waiting. This is great for anyone just starting to explore watercolors and will continue to serve well even when things must be replaced. I am planning on getting one for our Grandaughter in the near future..
    - Linda Ruttschaw

I bought this same kit a few years ago from Lillian Vernon for around $30. For the price Amazon is selling it for it is a steal. My grandson was four when I bought it for him and he is now six and he has just now ran out of paint. The wooden box is very nice and for a child the brushes are just fine. If a child becomes an artist then pay the money for top of the line brushes but not before.
    - Felecia Acevedo

This is ok quality, a true beginner's set. What it needs for sure is more structure in the box, so that the supplies aren't falling all over the place.
    - Angel187

I wanted to begin water-coloring, and just checking the prices at the local art store made me almost reconsider. I got this as a cheap alternative and, boy, is it ever a cheap alternative.- The brushes are terrible. If you're going to get serious about painting, just invest in new brushes. I got some starter brushes at the store for $10, and they were significantly better than the brushes in this kit.- The paints are fine for a beginner. Some are more watery than others, some are thicker than others, a few were obviously mislabeled (red is blue?) but for a beginner like me they seemed fine. I was able to paint with them, and that was the important part.- Ditch the pad. It's too small. I got a small pad at the art store for $5, and that was fine.- The instructions are...well, just look up how to watercolor on the internet. Much better.- There's a few slightly useful plastic tools.- The box I received didn't close on its own and eventually, literally, fell apart one day. I just put the paints in some other box and didn't worry about it too much.To sum up: this would be a great set for a child or someone who is not sure if they'd be interested in painting. Otherwise, just fork over some money for a slightly better set at an art shop.

Breaking Bad, season five, episode 14, Ozymandias, review

Ozymandias. This will go down as the episode in which Hank was killed, Jesse was tortured and Walt Jr learnt the truth about his father. But it's key to the greatness of Breaking Bad that we didn't see any of these events, only their aftermath. We heard the shot that ended Hank's (Dean Norris) life, and saw instead Walt (Bryan Cranston), who had offered every last cent of his precious drug money to try to bargain for his brother-in-law's life, in an agony of pain so profound that it led to his cruellest act in five seasons, bar one, in telling Jesse (Aaron Paul) that the girl he loved could have lived. That he, Walter White, had watched her die and done nothing. ("I could have saved her but I didn't.") It was surpassed in cruelty only by that earlier act itself. We saw the tortured Jesse, in terror of the young man, Todd (Jesse Plemons), who had beaten his secrets from him. And we saw Walt Jr's world smashed in ever more violent ways ("Uncle Hank is dead?") without it once destroying the moral code that his parents had given him... you know the one, the one that made his father his hero: "He's a great father, a great teacher. He knows like everything there is to know about chemistry. He's patient with you, he's always there for you. He's just decent. And he always does the right thing and that's how he teaches me to be."

Faced with a moment of crisis, a fight between his mother and father that involved a large kitchen knife (from the knife block that made two appearances in the episode, beginning with the opening flashback, in which Walt framed an early lie to his wife), Walt Jr didn't hesitate. He phoned the police, he informed on his father, he told the truth. And the truth was that all Walt's notion of "family", the lie that had lit his path into darkness, was just that - a lie.

But there were many. Marie's visit to Skyler at the carwash, Walt's fury at being thwarted leading him to snatch baby Holly, Skyler's desperation as she ran out into the road, Walt's blood from a knife wound still on her clothes, Walt's phone call at the end to try to spin one last lie that would separate Skyler from blame, with the police listening in, framed as an attack on her. There were brilliant performances everywhere you looked.

But there was also an apparent flaw in the episode's beautiful internal logic, which played out from the moment Hank offered Walt his one note of thanks for trying to save him. As white supremacist gang boss Jack (Michael Bowen) held a gun to his head and Walt pleaded for his life, Hank's line contained a recrimination much wider reaching than the one in the words themselves. "You're the smartest man I know," Hank said, "but you're too stupid to realise that he made up his mind 10 minutes ago."

But surely Jack would have killed Walt, too. He had, after all, killed his brother-in-law and taken his money. And Jack knows what Walt is capable of, so why leave him alive? If his nephew Todd's moral code could be encapsulated in the moment that he shot young Drew Sharp, unhesitatingly, in the episode Dead Freight then surely he must have learned well from his uncle. Unless, of course, Todd's view of Jack is as far from the truth as Walter Jr's was of Walt. Maybe it was a charitable gesture. Or perhaps he looked at the man he'd seen crying on the floor and saw only that other Walt: the decent man, the teacher who knows everything there is to know about chemistry. Anyhow, it was very decent of Jack to leave him, however reduced, in the game.

Either way, I couldn't help thinking that Gus Fring, with his genius for organisation, would never have let things come to such a pass as Walt now faced. But then as Mike Ehrmentraut always said, "Just because you shot Jesse James doesn't make you Jesse James."

The episode title, Ozymandias, was beautifully engineered to hint at the total ruin of Walt's world and the end of all his power. But this shattering episode could equally as well have been named for a line in the song that played as Walt rolled his one remaining barrel of money through the desert. "Say goodbye to everyone."

Copic Marker with Replaceable Nib, 110-Copic, Special Black Shopper Review
I was thinking of putting 4 stars for this item, but there are no other caricature/cartooning markers out now that are as good so I had to go with 5. Dixon markette markers are probably the second best out there, but they are difficult to get out of Canada and have a replaced nib that is not as good as how Dixon used to make them. The "copic sketch markers" are alcohol based and don't give off any horrible chemical smell like marker pro caricature markers. They don't bleed and typically won't show up on your second sheet.Of course, getting either fine or thick lines is important for the artform of caricature, and the copic sketch marker had replaceable nibs to achieve that almost impossible feat to a degree better than any marker out there, besides the old markettes which have disappeared from existence. Dixon still makes "markette" markers that are the same as the old except for one decisive factor; the nibs they use now are not as good. For this reason copic markers have taken their place as the best.

Every year that my children have 'watercolors' on their supply list, I go looking for Prang watercolors as they are the best! Their color is bright and clearly individual. As a kindergarten teacher I learned pretty quick which watercolors could do the job and which could not (RoseArt). The intensity of the colors really sets these paints apart from the rest!
    - Leslie C. Whitaker

I use these a lot when I'm painting with watercolors. The colors are nice and vibrant, depending on how much water is added, and easily mixed and manipulated. Sometimes the color isn't very pigmented but it's easily fixed by adding more layers of color or adding more color to the water. For a starting level and standard school supply watercolor set, Prang is really worth it.

Students reminded to 'Never Forget' 9/11

BROOKFIELD -- One girl wiped tears, another grimaced. One boy looked down at his shoes.

All 20 eighth-grade Whisconier Middle School students stayed silent even as the music stopped and the live screen images of terror stilled.

With a mantra of "Never Forget,'' Whisconier Middle School history teacher Greg Gubitosi's Sept. 11 lesson opened to clips of the same bright, sunny morning 12 years ago, one turned to horror as first one and then another airliner crashed into the World Trade Centers, toppling the Twin Towers. A third plane crashed into the Pentagon; a fourth crashed in a Pennsylvania field when passengers sacrificed their lives rather than let terrorists dive bomb what appeared to be the next target: the U.S. Capitol.

For these children, memories of Sept. 11, 2001, are not their own; most were toddlers.

Yet the impact is not lost on them, particularly the bravery of innocent people trapped inside the smoky towers who rescued, or just comforted, colleagues amid the chaos. They hailed the firefighters, police, and medial crews who raced into danger to save anyone they could find; some 500 dying in their attempt.

Liam Connors admits that in his earlier years the significance of Sept. 11 was vague. At 13, though, the graphic images of destruction in a place that is a drivable distance from his home gives him pause, he said.

Every year in school, Liam said, he and his fellow students talk about Sept. 11, 2001, and he believes generations from now the terrorist attacks will still need to be revisited.

"Kids need to know what happened,'' Liam said.

The CNN live video feed of the attack unfolding "baffled me,'' Liam said, noting he still finds it hard to fathom the hatred that would lead "other countries to do this to us.''

    "It's crazy,'' he said.

In Gubitosi's classroom Wednesday morning, an American flag was hanging in front of a side window. He shared with his students that this was not just any flag: It was the one that was flown where his U.S. Army soldier son, John, served four separate tours of duty: three in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

"The war on terrorism is personal to me,'' Gubitosi said, his voice cracking a bit as he noted that his son served in the very same place where a sniper killed Air National Guard Staff Sgt. T.J. Lobraico of New Fairfield last week.

Gubitosi then talked of heroes to the class. He asked the new School Resource Officer, Sean Flynn, to share a quote.

"A hero isn't someone who isn't afraid; it's someone who is afraid but runs in anyway,'' Flynn said.

The students were then instructed to write their own paragraph titled, "What Is A Hero?'' The answers were varied, yet similar. Most agreed a hero is selfless, willing to sacrifice for the good of others; fathers and firefighters made some of their personal lists.

Principal Deane Renda said he still gets "the woolies'' when he reflects on that day when he was still a fifth-grade teacher at the school where he is now the head administrator.

Sept. 11, 2001 "forever changed our lives,'' said Renda, whose opening announcements of the day referenced the terrorism that killed nearly 3,000 people and requested a moment of silence for those families, as well as the family of Lobraico.

The Sept. 11, 2013 homework assignment for Gubitosi's class was "Never Forget What Happened on Sept. 11, 2001 for the rest of your lives.''

    Grammatically Correct, 2nd Edition Reviews

    Grammatically Correct, 2nd Edition Reviews
The topics addressed are good and the information presented is useful, but the errors in the text detract from the final product. I was surprised that for a book which deals with grammar and style that the author did not pay more attention to the details of presentation, breaking even some of her own rules.
    - M. Albert Collins

I have an earlier edition of this book. I recommend it for quick and easy reference about certain grammatical questions, but I must say that if you want or need a thorough explanation, you should consult the Chicago Manual of Style. For ease of use, though, this is a good book. Let's say that you need to refresh your memory about how the colon is used (or let's say you've never even thought about how the colon is used, but now, for one reason or another, you need to know). Grammatically Correct has five parts. You would look in Part Three, Punctuation, and you would see in the Table of Contents that each punctuation mark has its own little chapter or section within the larger parts. The colon is the fourth punctuation mark discussed, and it gets nine pages. The nine pages pretty much cover all uses of the colon, and there's even a short discussion of colon vs. semicolon. For most people, the information presented in this book is sufficient to answer the grammatical questions they have. It's easy to use, and that's a big plus.

First of all this is a review of the Kindle version it has converted well with good formatting the only downside of this version is with some of the early examples of correct and incorrect examples the answers are quite small and in a fairly faint grey and as they are included as a graphic they cannot be enlarged.Although a American publication it deals with "English" in a more general manner giving differences between USA and UK usage and spelling, indeed it references other versions of "English".I have rarely come across a reference book that I have actually read rather than dipping in and out when I wanted to know something. Although this is directed primarily at authors it is extremely useful for everyone who wants to improve their English grammar and spelling. The one section that I have never before seen so clearly laid out is where correctly spelt words are used in the wrong context. This is a book that I will not delete from my Kindle.
    - Bob

The book is good for basic grammar rules. But if anyone wants to have an advanced grammar book, do not get it. This book contains very basic rule that are not applicable in writing of anything more complex than an essay of a fifth-grader.

Though I very rarely give reviews, I'm making an exception.I'm constantly buying grammar books (my worst subject) for review. I have a masters degree, yet I still struggle with grammar (some kind of mental block). This is the first grammar book in which the information is given in a way I could logically and enjoyably absorb it. Excellent-you won't regret buying it. Thanks to the author, Anne Stilman.
    - Anthony Ingoglia "Primalart - Seeker"

This is an essential guide for grammar. Even not being native to English, the book was pretty much comprehensible and helped me out a lot with many doubts.

This is an inexpensive alternative to that mammoth Chicago Manual of Style. It's an excellent reference book for grammar, punctuation, & style. It's easy to find what you want. It's easy to read--doesn't read like a "reference book." For example, should I have put my closing quotation mark before the period in the last sentence? Get the book & find out. I can't believe a book can hold so much when it's only 3/4" wide.

By trade I am a historian and so most of my reviews will either cover history, anthropology, (my minor) or theology (my passion). Recently, Kindle ran this book as one of the "Kindle Daily Deals" and I picked it up for a great price. I did not come to this book with high expectations. Let's face it, grammar books are not as exciting to most people as they might be to an English major. This book left me feeling pleasantly surprised. Its goal is to give the reader a refresher course on the conventions of English Grammar. However, Anne Stillman does a little more than that by giving the reader an easy, accessible and fun book to peruse. I am not an English major as may be apparent in my review. Therefore, my review may not be as useful as someone who is in this field. Nevertheless, I learned a lot of things from this book and had my memory refreshed on things that I had long forgotten.First of all, the book is basically fun. There are sections of the book which drag a little bit. However, that has more to do with the content than the author. She did an outstanding job writing in a way that requires the reader to interact with the book. She gives examples of different texts that show mistakes and then demonstrates the correct rules. She also gives test questions at various points allowing the reader to see what he or she does may be weak in. This was a great asset to the book. It is important to not just read a book but be able to test yourself and see whether you understand the concepts. Her vocabulary is not bloated and inaccessible. She writes with a relaxed yet professional tone. There is a bit of academic language that she introduces. Most of these terms you have heard in Jr. High or High School. However, if you have not, then don't worry because she breaks it down into a manageable size.Second of all, the book is full of important grammar rules. I love the fact that she is not stuffy. She tells you the rules but she also tells where the rules are not as clear. This was important to me because in college I would often get conflicting grammar tips from professors. She clears up some of the opinions and thoughts about the rules. There are a lot of things that are actually very dependent upon your judgment. She goes through punctuation, parts of speech, sentence structure, and tips for successful writing. Some of the things you will find that you know. Others you may know but not be able to explain how you know. This book will help you remember why these rules are set in place. It is a fairly fast paced book so obviously if you are looking for something that dives in deep then you will find this book to be unsatisfactory. However,if it is a good brush-up you are looking for then this book is for you.Lastly, the book has great advice for aspiring writers. If you are thinking about writing a book or even a term paper this book is great to have around to reference when needed. She gives great instruction on helping your paper to flow more smoothly. She is concise and precise as she teaches the aspiring writer to do the same. She gives great examples from books and exhorts the writer to not be verbose and yet not to aspire to be as short and sweet as Hemingway. She admonishes the writer to shoot for the middle ground. On a side note, the book has great charts in it. There are some complaints about the Kindle edition but I didn't find it intolerable. The charts have a few errors on them but Kindle is working with the publisher to get these bugs worked out. In my opinion it did not detract from the work.I did not pay full price for this book because I caught it on sale. However, I would gladly pay full price for it. It is important to have a good reference or two around, and if you don't have one then here is a good one to start with. If I do any academic writing in the future this will be my go-to book. Hopefully, as you are reading this you are not thinking I should go back and read it again. I probably should! I won't read it again but I will definitely reference it quite often. Unless you are an English major I can't see why you would need any more than this book to aid you with your grammar skills. Thanks for taking the time to read this review and I hope that it helped.

by Anne Stilman, 2010.The definition of the Past Perfect on page 248 is incorrect, so the examples given are likely to be incorrect as well. Buyer beware. This caveat relates to the one tense only and should not be construed as an opinion of the whole text.~~~~~~~The Past Perfect is a specialized device by which we are able to show that by the time something happened, something else had ALREADY happened. It is NOT used to show that one past event preceded another. From the sixth grade: "When the police arrived, the robbers had fled", i.e, the robbers were ALREADY gone; there were just cops there, no robbers.
    - Brad Johnston

I'll be the first to admit that reference books tend to put me to sleep. This book however is a joy to read (and I don't say that lightly). Informative, to the point, and not excessive at all. I'm very impressed and completely grateful to the author. In the midst of editing my own work; this was just what I needed. I have the Kindle version and found very few errors. All the hyperlinks work well, and make going back and forth between sections an ease.

Apple announced a deluge of products at its Cupertino campus this morning ...

Apple announced a deluge of products at its Cupertino campus this morning. The iPhone- and iOS-centric event naturally focused on the companys smartphone lineup, from its new flagship iPhone 5S to the mid-range iPhone 5C to the forthcoming iOS 7. But its no Apple event without a few surprises tossed in, including free iWork apps and the end of the iPhone 5.

Heres what went down at the Apple headquarters and what company executives had to say about it.

    iPhone 5S

    Photo: Alex Washburn/WIRED

Much like the upgrade between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S, the S in iPhone 5S signals an incremental, rather than dramatic, change from the iPhone 5. On the surface, it looks incredibly similar to its predecessor. It has the same shape and size, with a few key visual changes including a ring around the Home button and new metallic colors of gold, silver and a slate grey (see below).

The major upgrades lie inside, with a new 64-bit A7 processor. Since iOS 7 is completely re-engineered for 64-bit, the iPhone 5S is totally optimized for the coming mobile operating system. It also means the phones CPU and GPU are 40x and 50x faster than the original iPhone. In laymans terms, thats about 5 times faster than the iPhone 5. A new M7 motion co-processor works alongside the A7 chip to continuously measure motion from the accelerometer, compass and gyroscope. It offloads the work from the A7 chip for power efficiency, which new fitness and health apps can build on.

Battery life only got slightly better compared to the iPhone 5. Apple says that youll be able to get 10 hours of talk time or LTE/Wi-Fi browsing, or 250 hours of standby time.

For the iPhone 5S camera, Apple went the HTC route with larger, rather than more, pixels. The new sensor has pixels that are 15 percent larger than the ones on the iPhone 5. And the LED flash got a major upgrade with what Apple is calling True Tone Flash. Its made up of two LEDs, one white and the other a warm amber color. You can adjust the type of flash you need for the photo setting, with more than 1,000 variations. The iOS 7 camera app will take advantage of the new camera with several software upgrades, including a burst mode feature and a slow-motion video capture.

One of the most anticipated new features is the iPhone 5S Touch ID sensor a touch-capacitive fingerprint scanner built into the iPhone 5S Home button that is able to read your fingerprint for security purposes. Instead of tapping in a password, just place your finger on the Home button and it will know when its you, versus a nosey friend or a thief. It can read your fingerprint in any direction, and you can use it to log into the phone or as the password for iTunes purchases. Apple assures that all fingerprints are encrypted and secure, never uploaded to Apples servers to backed up to iCloud.

This is our most forward-thinking phone yet, Phil Schiller said at the event.

The 16GB iPhone 5S will be available for $200, the 32GB model will cost $300 and the 64GB will be $400, on a two-year contract. The phone will be available September 20.

    Metallic iPhones

    Photo: Alex Washburn/WIRED

Simply put, the iPhone 5S will come in three new metallic shades, so you can look like youre talking into a brick of gold, silver or lead. Though rumors pointed simply to a gold iPhone, Apple revamped the overall colors of its handset lineup.

    iPhone 5C

    Photo: Alex Washburn/WIRED

The iPhone 5C is Apples low-cost handset, made with a bright polycarbonate back in five color options: white, pink, green, blue and yellow. A 16GB model costs $100 and the 32GB model costs $200 on a two-year contract. The phone comes with all the specs youd expect to see in a mid-range smartphone, or you know, a high-end smartphone from last year. It has the same A6 chip and 8-megapixel rear camera as the iPhone 5, and the same 4-inch Retina Display as the iPhone 5S.

It does have some new features as well, including an front-facing HD FaceTime camera with backside illumination. The iPhone 5C also supports the most LTE bands than any other currently available smartphone. And for the power-hungry, the iPhone 5C has a slightly larger battery than its predecessor. Apple also touted a custom silicon case made especially for the handset, that came with littler perforations that expose the original color of the phone. Think of it as a bright plastic, slightly more advanced version of the iPhone 5.

iPhone 5C is beautifully, unapologetically plastic, Jony Ive said in a video shown at the event. You can pre-order the iPhone 5C starting September 13; it will be available in stores on September 20.

    iOS 7

    Photo: Alex Washburn/WIRED

Apple showed off its totally revamped mobile operating system, dubbed iOS 7, at its developer conference this summer. It features a completely new look with fresh, flat fonts and all along with 200 new features like Control Center, a refreshed Notification Center, better multitasking, and AirDrop.

The OS has been in beta for the last several months, and Apple officially announced its public release for September 18. iOS 7 will be available for the iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, iPad mini and iPad touch (5th generation).

    Free iWork Apps

    Photo: Alex Washburn/WIRED

We think that iWork is a really key advantage for our customers productivity, and iPhoto and iMovie are great for their creativity, CEO Tim Cook said at the event. To that end, Apple is making all of its iWork apps Pages, Numbers and Keynote along with iPhoto and iMovie free to people who purchase new iOS devices.

    No More iPhone 5

In a somewhat surprising move, Apple quickly killed off the iPhone 5. It is replacing it with the iPhone 5C and the iPhone 5S. The company didnt end all of its old iPhone lineup the iPhone 4S will still be available in an 8GB model for free with a two-year contract.

    Sales Stats

Its no Apple event without a showy display of incredibly large numbers. Cook announced that Apple will sell its 700 millionth iOS device next month. iOS 7 will quickly become the worlds most popular operating system, he said. Cook also highlighted this years the iTunes Music Festival, which is in its seventh year. More than 20 million applied for the free tickets to the event that featured such famed artists are Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake and Elton John.

To top todays event off, Elvis Costello came out to serenade the audience of tech press.

Sanford 2263 Turquoise Drawing Pencil, 2B, 1.98 mm, Dozen User Reviews

Sanford 2263 Turquoise Drawing Pencil, 2B, 1.98 mm, Dozen User Reviews
The pretty picture of several pencils posing together in a little group made me, silly me, think that if I ordered from that picture, I'd get that little group of pencils. Alas no. All I got was ONE pencil, and a bill for $5.98 for shipping and handling. The pencil is just as good as I expected, but caveat emptor: read the fine print.
    - Ann R Crawford

The pencil I received was of good quality, but the description led me to believe that I was ordering a dozen pencils. I paid over $6 for one pencil. I, now, do not have the materials necessary for my micro-teaching presentation.
    - Jodi N.

These pencils do not worth nothing. I think they are made of sand instead of graph. If you are an artist go and look for a good brand pencil than will not scratch your paper like tombo, Mitsubishi, faber castell, or steadtler. I got 12 of them around $ 5 from different web site; I thought they could be good pencils for drawing. I was completely wrong. Now I have tombo, and faber castell pencils. I am very happy with them.

Dallas Cowboys force six turnovers, escape with 36-31 win against New York ...

ARLINGTON,Texas(AP) Tony Romo threw two touchdown passes to Jason Witten, Barry Church returned a fumble 27 yards for a score and theDallasCowboys led 27-17 after three quarters against the turnover-plagued New York Giants on Sunday night.

Giants running back David Wilson, who also fumbled on New York's first running play in the game, was stripped early in the second half by Nick Hayden. Church scooped up the ball and ran into the end zone.

Without a fourth-quarter comeback, Eli Manning and the Giants would no longer be undefeated in Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' $1.2 billion showplace stadium.

They were 4-0 in the building, including a victory in the first regular-season game there in 2009.

Manning had two TD passes to Victor Cruz, including an 18-yarder with 1:44 left in the third quarter.

The Giants already had five turnovers (two fumbles by Wilson, two interceptions by Manning and a botched punt return).

They hadn't had five turnovers since an October 2011 game against Seattle.

Dallas' defense forced only 16 turnovers all last season (seven interceptions, nine fumbles).

The Cowboys had three in their first 6 minutes playing in new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin's 4-3 scheme.

A play after a possible pass interference call on Dez Bryant didn't draw a penalty and the Cowboys punted, the ball hit Giants blocker Trumaine McBride and was recovered by rookie DeVonte Holloman at the Giants 16.

That set up Romo's 4-yard TD throw to Witten, the eight-time Pro Bowler who had only three scores last season, for a 27-10 lead.

Romo threw a 15-yard score to Witten before halftime, and Dan Bailey also had two field goals (30 and 38 yards) by then for a 13-10 lead.

In the final minute of the first half, Romo was hit in the ribs and had the wind knocked out after being crushed between Mathias Kiwanuka and Justin Trattou after throwing an incompletion. Kyle Orton came on to finish the half, but Romo was back after halftime.

Manning hit 12 of 20 passes for 249 yards in the first three quarters, and Cruz had eight catches for 108 yards.

Romo was 30 of 42 for 241 yards. Miles Austin had nine catches for 59 yards and Witten had seven catches for 66 yards.

Witten's first TD catch with 3 minutes left in the first half made it 13-3 and came with linebacker Mark Herzlich trying to cover him in the end zone. The grab put him over 9,000 yards receiving. He also had a 21-yard catch on the previous play.

But Manning, who threw two interceptions in the first 6 minutes of the game, found a wide-open Cruz for a 70-yard touchdown after snapping the ball right before the two-minute warning of the first half.

The Giants had been forced to call a timeout before taking the first snap on that drive, and then had a false start penalty out of the timeout.

On the first play of the game, Manning was trying to complete a short pass to Wilson. DeMarcus Ware, the perennial Pro Bowl linebacker now playing defensive end, reached out and grabbed the throw, setting up the Cowboys at the Giants 15.

After Manning's second interception, this one by new Cowboys safety Will Allen,Dallashad third-and-11 at the Giants 14.

Romo then threw a pass toward rookie Terrance Williams that instead deflected off Prince Amukamara into the arms of Ryan Mundy, who raced 91 yards. He was caught from behind by running back DeMarco Murray at the 1.

Amukamara and Mundy had a less pleasant connection with Williams late in the first half. The defensive backs collided helmet-to-helmet while tackling Williams after a completed pass. Amukamara sustained a concussion and didn't return, while Mundy was cleared to return after halftime.

After Mundy was run down at the 1 on his interception return, Wilson was then stuffed for no gain before Manning was sacked, and the Giants had to settle for a 20-yard field goal by Josh Brown.
