This is a splendid modest kit for experimenting with acrylics. However the size of the tube is completely too small, so I would avoid export these if you're an art apprentice but very invest in better tubes of the colours you absolutely NEED instead.-They're okay when total with medium. You have to use a lot of them in the medium to not lose the colour. I urge using a professional medium with them if you can meet the deprivation of it. I definitely noticed a difference when I used Liquitex gel mediums vs fair or Winsor & Newton.-The pigment load is okay, but will not look "vibrant". Some of the colours are noticeably brighter than others when diverse with medium (Pthalo blue looks splendid for develop, while primary yellow tends to look flat)-They don't hold up to the test of time well, the lightfastness is not splendid but definitely best than additional apprentice grade paints.I urge these for:-New painter-Experimentation with new techniques-Family/teenagers who wish to initiation painting in acrylic (do not gift medium with this kit, wait to see how they feel about the paints first)I do not urge these for:-Art students and hobbyist painters (you need way more paint than this so just buy the bigger tubes and save money)-Paintings you intend to give as a gift (or keep)-Paintings you intend to sell-Anyone past "apprentice" level as these are apprentice grade paints.

Prior to using Liquitex paint I was using Michael's Actor Loft acrylic paint. Not release is the liquitex a great deal on Amazon, save pro I be fond of effective with this paint better. I be fond of tubing clarification which seems to be a type of plastic, it makes it easy to get the paint out. Skilled starter kit if you're beginning to paint. This isn't a toy and I don't recommend it as a toy, so I'm not sure why Amazon's making me rate it like a toy. Anyway...I'm a casual hobbyist painter, and had been looking for some knives to mix acrylic paint on a glass table top. I had tried plastic knives (don't waste your time/money), and other metal knives from a local art supply store, but all of them left trails of paint behind after scraping. I bought this and some other Liquitex knives, hoping they would cleanly scrape paint from glass, and they do a much, much better job. Though obviously pricier, the Liquitex knives have a finer edge, and seem to be much better quality as well.

Painting knife is sturdy and well made. I used it to mix paints and it does the job. It's recommended.

I took Color Theory my freshman year of college and needed something to mix paints! i purchased a previous pallet knife; one that my instructor recommended. Shortly after vigorously mixing paint the head snapped off. The head was welded on and not one piece like this one. This piece is a little on the big side, If you are mixing just to paint small pictures this will not work for you. If you need to mix different shades and make values this is great. And as I said the "blade" is one piece going into the handle so you can mix without worry! Liquitex is a great company and I would order from them any day of the week.

There's varnish, there's gesso, and then there's Paint. This is the Paint: fine-grained and consistent, with great 'covering' properties.Gesso (white, opaque) is good for 'extending' a shade -- making 'more' of it, while preserving the color; it's almost as if the color 'coated' the particles in the gesso, rather than blending with them.Varnish, even when 'white', tends to ride on top of the paint, enhancing contrast (getting into 'pores' in the surface?), but also adding glare and 'grey-ness'.This titanium white 'blends' well (even when added to gesso to raise the 'gloss'), thins well (with water or with vernish), covers well (a very thin layer will cover even water-wet ultramarine, with no bleed-through), and 'draws' well (with the knife), due to its 'heavy body' composition.All in all, a good addition to the palette, as are other shades by the same manufacturer.

Liquitex soft body acrylics are smooth, stay usable forever in the jar, and are wonderful for fine work, especially linear. They are versatile, too.
