Jay Gruden will be officially announced as the next head coach of the Washington Redskins at a news conference on Thursday afternoon. Here are some things you may not know about the newest arrival at Redskins Park.

1. Hes in the Arena Football Hall of Fame

Gruden is a six-time Arena Bowl champion, four as quarterback of the Tampa Bay Storm and two as a coach with the Orlando Predators.He finished his playing career with 21,476 passing yards and 397 touchdowns and was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 1999.

2. He was once called the Michael Jordan of Arena Football

When Gruden made a return to the AFL as a player in 2002 after coaching for a few years, an article in the Orlando Sentinel likened him to another athlete who made a late career comeback attempt with this passage:

Gruden made similar remarks to the Orlando Sentinel in 2006.

Im 39, and I dont take orders very well, Predators Coach JayGrudensaid. I like being in charge and calling all the plays and bringing in who I want to bring in and cutting who I want to cut, signing who I want to sign. Leaving when I want to leave.

5. He apparently doesnt like meetings

In that same 2006 article, one of his players had this to day about Grudens mentality.

He doesnt have the mentality for the NFL, said Kenny McEntyre, the Predators defensive specialist who joined the team in 1998. In the NFL, they meet for eight, 10, 12 hours. Jays not that type of person.

6. His first mention in The Washington Post was 25 years ago

Hes been mentioned numerous times in the last few weeks and will grace hundreds of our pages during his time here, but his first mention in The Post was in 1988. Then a quarterback at Louisville, Gruden was named in a story about Howard Schnellenberger in advance of the season opener against Maryland in College Park.

This season is particularly important to Schnellenberger. Under him, the Cardinals have gone 2-9, 3-8 and 3-7-1, hardly the stuff of legends. Schnellenbergers lucrative five-year contract is up after next season, and to this point he has declined to negotiate an extension, although for the most part the city still seems quite enamored of him. He might be waiting for two things: If his 1988 team, which features a good quarterback inJay Gruden and defensive stars Ed Reynolds and Pat Fitzgerald, can put together a winning record, his negotiating position withLouisvillewould be enhanced, as would be his attractiveness to other schools.

7. Jim Haslett hired him to coach in the UFL in 2009

Before coming to the Redskins as defensive coordinator, Haslett was head coach of the Florida Tuskers during the United Football Leagues inaugural season in 2009. He hired Gruden to be his offensive coordinator.

Jay should be a coordinator in the NFL, Haslett told the Tampa Tribune at the time. He and his brother are so much alike, its unbelievable. Football-wise, Jay is ridiculously smart. Hes a great fit for us.

8. He has a chip on his shoulder

At least in 2006 he did. In a chat with the Orlando Sentinel, Gruden admitted that he still had hard feelings about not making an NFL team as a quarterback.

I never understood why I never got an opportunity, but Im still a little bitter over that, he said in June of that year. Even at age 39, Im still [mad] at every NFL GM and scout, probably one of the reasons Im here still.

9. Game day Gruden is intense

In that same 2006 Orlando Sentinel piece, Predators lineman Doug Miller described Grudens increasing intensity levels throughout the week.

Miller equates the transformation to the TV version of the Incredible Hulk: David Banner during the week and Lou Ferrigno on game day.

10. He says hes not a media hound

In August 2010, and Orlando Sentinel column wondered why Gruden was coaching the UFL and not making a play for the NFL.

Im happy here, Gruden told the paper. Ive never been a media hound. I dont care if my name is in the paper or being mentioned for big-time jobs. I dont have to be on Hard Knocks.

I just love coaching football and I love coaching players that have a passion for the game. Ive got players I like, a staff I like and a town I love to live in. My wife and kids are happy. Im not dying to make the jump just because its the NFL.

Of course he ended up on Hard Knocks a few years later.

Some of the colours are noticeably brighter than others when diverse with medium (Pthalo blue looks splendid for develop, while primary yellow tends to look flat)-They don't hold up to the test of time well, the lightfastness is not splendid but definitely best than additional apprentice grade paints.I urge these for:-New painter-Experimentation with new techniques-Family/teenagers who wish to initiation painting in acrylic (do not gift medium with this kit, wait to see how they feel about the paints first)I do not urge these for:-Art students and hobbyist painters (you need way more paint than this so just buy the bigger tubes and save money)-Paintings you intend to give as a gift (or keep)-Paintings you intend to sell-Anyone past "apprentice" level as these are apprentice grade paints.

Take it apart, put them in place, and as soon as you put the white panel in place, they just pop right out again. Then they rattle almost, and must you pick up your light box, the white acrylic panel can fall right out.Additionally, there is a reflective panel surrounded by whose purpose is to bounce the light up headed for your machinate. This panel is not anything more than heavy consequence paper with a coating of lamination on it. Serves its purpose, I infer, but again...totally cheap & poor.I will categorically be returning this one...major disappointment. :(

ARLINGTON The college football teams that tussled at Fridays Cotton Bowl Classic barely missed their shots at a more prestigious bowl game.

But if there were feelings of regret in Arlington, it was fleeting in the sold-out stands and packed parking lots of AT&T Stadium. Playing into the stereotype of the polite Midwesterners, fans of Oklahoma State and Missouri described it as an honor to be in a storied bowl game in the sports glitziest venue.

Lee Redick, known to OSU Cowboys fans since 1999 as Mr. Orange Power, noted that his team could have had a BCS bid if not for its loss last month to Oklahoma. Still, Arlington was a worthy destination, he said.

I couldnt be happier, said Redick, wearing an orange jumpsuit thats part Elvis Presley, part NASCAR. Were in the center of the country and at the best stadium in the world.

Also, the Edmond, Okla., resident said it didnt hurt that he only had to drive about three hours for the game.

Matt Rogers, a dairy farmer from southern Missouri, said he was just enjoying the Tigers resurgence. To celebrate, his wife persuaded him to paint his beard with yellow and black tiger stripes.

We wanted more, but were thrilled to death we got this far, Rogers said.

While fans from both sides were happy to play in Arlington on Friday, their real dream is to return and play for higher stakes next January.

AT&T Stadium will host the debut College Football Championship Game on Jan. 12, 2015. The Cotton Bowl Classic will be the host for that game, although it wont be called the Cotton Bowl. The next Cotton Bowl Classic will be played Dec. 31, 2014, about two weeks before the championship.

Among the crowds of orange and gold, Gregg Wilson described himself as a fan of the Cotton Bowl Classic rather than any team playing in it. He proved to be one of the most popular photo opportunities among tailgaters in Lot 4 despite his outward neutrality.

Wilson wore an oversized football helmet decorated to resemble a cotton plant, complete with a green stem attached. The Dallas resident said it took him about 10 hours over four days to glue the more than 2,000 cotton balls onto his helmet.

The Cotton Bowl is getting bigger and bigger, Wilson said, referring to its top-notch matchups and new role in the College Football Playoff series. I want to build a fun, exciting tradition. Ill be here no matter who is playing.

Besides the obvious aid for fair art, these are great for introducing math skills such as superior and lesser than, numer sense and addendum and subtraction stories. I'm guaranteed there are still many uses I haven't planning of! Oh, using to characteristic cards manifold sets of sparkle cards for aid in any subject. Think of the one perched card that remains on the floor as all the rest are put away!
