Former NFL star Darren Sharper has been jailed in downtown Los Angeles and will remain there until he is sent to New Orleans to appear in court on charges that he raped two women there last September, according to Los Angeles police.

Sharper, 38, surrendered to Los Angeles police Thursday night without incident after authorities in New Orleans obtained a warrant for his arrest. Police suspect him of raping nine women in five states: two in New Orleans, two in Los Angeles, two in Las Vegas, two in Arizona and one in Miami, Fla.

So far, he only faces charges in Los Angeles and New Orleans while the other cases remain under investigation. He pleaded not guilty to the Los Angeles charges last week and left the court after posting $1 million in bail. On Thursday, he turned himself in on the warrant from New Orleans, which does not allow for bail, Los Angeles police said. Police said it's not clear when he will be extradited to New Orleans.

According to court documents and police reports, Sharper followed a similar pattern in most of the alleged rapes: He partied with them and then raped them after providing them with drinks that were laced with drugs to knock them out.

Sharper's attorneys, Blair Berk and Leonard Levine, disputed the allegations in court last week in Los Angeles.

"All of these were consensual contact between Mr. Sharper and women who wanted to be in his company, who voluntarily ingested alcohol and drugs in many cases," Levine said to the judge last week.

On Thursday, New Orleans police obtained an arrest warrant for Sharper and an acquaintance, Erik Nunez, 26, both accused of raping two women there in September. Nunez surrendered to New Orleans police on Friday and was booked on two counts of aggravated rape.

If convicted, Sharper and Nunez could be sent to prison for life without the possibility of parole.

Nunez is connected to the same women's advocacy charity events in which Sharper sometimes appeared as a star attraction to raise breast cancer awareness and benefit charity, according to social media accounts in his name. A Facebook page in the name of Erik Nunez features a poster advertising the appearances of Sharper and other players along with "Get Checked or Check out," a health charity that promotes breast-cancer awareness and is run by Sharper's marketing agent Darryn DeWalt.

A LinkedIn account in Nunez' name describes his job as "event coordinator/sales executive at Get Checked or Check Out."

DeWalt's wife, Cherine, told USA TODAY Sports Thursday said she didn't personally know Nunez but her staff might. She declined further comment. A message left for Darryn DeWalt was not returned.

"Last week, investigators learned that not one, but two women were allegedly sexually assaulted by Sharper in the same apartment the night of September 23rd," New Orleans police said in a statement. "New information uncovered also indicates that Nunez also allegedly raped both women that night at the same location."

USA TODAY Sports reported last week that on Sept. 22, the day before the alleged rapes, Sharper sent a message on Twitter to promote a women's football camp near Slidell, La., which he was to attend two days later with New Orleans Saints receiver Lance Moore. The event's promotional poster included the logo of "Get Checked or Check Out."

Court documents state that one alleged rape victim in Louisiana met Sharper at an event for Saints players the same day he sent the tweet. After the event, she accompanied Sharper to a bar and consumed a drink that Sharper gave her. Her next memory is waking up the next day with Sharper on top of her sexually assaulting her, according to the records.

The woman went to the hospital for a sexual assault examination on Sept. 24., the day Sharper was a star attendee at the football camp for women, intended to raise breast cancer awareness. A promotional poster for the event said, "Let's Get Physical" and it advertised "Get Crunk Cocktail Hours."

A swab taken from the alleged victim during her exam showed the presence of Sharper's DNA, according to court records.

Shia LaBeouf's recent string of bizarre behavior only got stranger on Sunday when he wore a paper bag on his head at the premiere of his film Nymphomaniac, Volume 1 during the 64th Berlinale International Film Festival.

The tuxedo-clad actor posed for photos as he peeked through two eye cutouts in the paper bag, on which the words "I am not famous anymore" were written. It's the same sentence he's been repeatedly been tweeting since Jan. 13.

Earlier on Sunday, LaBeouf stormed out of a press conference for the film after answering just one question, according to The Hollywood Reporter. And what an answer it was: when asked about his many sex scenes in the Lars von Trier film, he responded, "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much."

His fellow panelists -- including stars Christian Slater, Stacy Martin, Stellan Skarsgard, Uma Thurman and producer Louise Vesth -- reportedly looked stunned for a moment before lightly applauding while LaBeouf made a quick exit.

Slater tried to diffuse the situation in his next answer, saying, "Obviously, the script is packed with a lot of sardines ... one sardine after another."

In town to promote the film, LaBeouf's troubles began Saturday night when he lunged after three young men who tried to take his photo at the Ritz Carlton lounge. The 27-year-old actor's friends quickly intervened to calm him down.

The "seagulls" line is a quote from French soccer legend Eric Cantona, who is featured in Ken Loach's Looking for Eric.

In January, LaBeouf took to Twitter to declare he was "retiring from all public life." That came on the heels of a controversy that was ignited in December when it was revealed that his critically praised short film HowardCantour.com was lifted from artist Dan Clowes' graphic story Justin M. Damiano.

Jay Gruden will be officially announced as the next head coach of the Washington Redskins at a news conference on Thursday afternoon. Here are some things you may not know about the newest arrival at Redskins Park.

1. Hes in the Arena Football Hall of Fame

Gruden is a six-time Arena Bowl champion, four as quarterback of the Tampa Bay Storm and two as a coach with the Orlando Predators.He finished his playing career with 21,476 passing yards and 397 touchdowns and was inducted into the AFL Hall of Fame in 1999.

2. He was once called the Michael Jordan of Arena Football

When Gruden made a return to the AFL as a player in 2002 after coaching for a few years, an article in the Orlando Sentinel likened him to another athlete who made a late career comeback attempt with this passage:

And now hes putting on the pads once more at age 34. So what does he think? Can he be another Michael Jordan? Can he be almost as good as he once was?I expect to be much better, he said. Mentally Ill be like an Olympic gold medalist if you compare what I know now to what I knew then. Physically, Ill be fine. I was never a scrambling quarterback anyway.

3. He once rated his own body a 32 out of 100.

During his second comeback season and last season as a quarterback in the AFL, an Orlando Sentinel piece had this exchange

Gruden made similar remarks to the Orlando Sentinel in 2006.

Im 39, and I dont take orders very well, Predators Coach JayGrudensaid. I like being in charge and calling all the plays and bringing in who I want to bring in and cutting who I want to cut, signing who I want to sign. Leaving when I want to leave.

5. He apparently doesnt like meetings

In that same 2006 article, one of his players had this to day about Grudens mentality.

He doesnt have the mentality for the NFL, said Kenny McEntyre, the Predators defensive specialist who joined the team in 1998. In the NFL, they meet for eight, 10, 12 hours. Jays not that type of person.

6. His first mention in The Washington Post was 25 years ago

Hes been mentioned numerous times in the last few weeks and will grace hundreds of our pages during his time here, but his first mention in The Post was in 1988. Then a quarterback at Louisville, Gruden was named in a story about Howard Schnellenberger in advance of the season opener against Maryland in College Park.

This season is particularly important to Schnellenberger. Under him, the Cardinals have gone 2-9, 3-8 and 3-7-1, hardly the stuff of legends. Schnellenbergers lucrative five-year contract is up after next season, and to this point he has declined to negotiate an extension, although for the most part the city still seems quite enamored of him. He might be waiting for two things: If his 1988 team, which features a good quarterback inJay Gruden and defensive stars Ed Reynolds and Pat Fitzgerald, can put together a winning record, his negotiating position withLouisvillewould be enhanced, as would be his attractiveness to other schools.

7. Jim Haslett hired him to coach in the UFL in 2009

Before coming to the Redskins as defensive coordinator, Haslett was head coach of the Florida Tuskers during the United Football Leagues inaugural season in 2009. He hired Gruden to be his offensive coordinator.

Jay should be a coordinator in the NFL, Haslett told the Tampa Tribune at the time. He and his brother are so much alike, its unbelievable. Football-wise, Jay is ridiculously smart. Hes a great fit for us.

8. He has a chip on his shoulder

At least in 2006 he did. In a chat with the Orlando Sentinel, Gruden admitted that he still had hard feelings about not making an NFL team as a quarterback.

I never understood why I never got an opportunity, but Im still a little bitter over that, he said in June of that year. Even at age 39, Im still [mad] at every NFL GM and scout, probably one of the reasons Im here still.

9. Game day Gruden is intense

In that same 2006 Orlando Sentinel piece, Predators lineman Doug Miller described Grudens increasing intensity levels throughout the week.

Miller equates the transformation to the TV version of the Incredible Hulk: David Banner during the week and Lou Ferrigno on game day.

10. He says hes not a media hound

In August 2010, and Orlando Sentinel column wondered why Gruden was coaching the UFL and not making a play for the NFL.

Im happy here, Gruden told the paper. Ive never been a media hound. I dont care if my name is in the paper or being mentioned for big-time jobs. I dont have to be on Hard Knocks.

I just love coaching football and I love coaching players that have a passion for the game. Ive got players I like, a staff I like and a town I love to live in. My wife and kids are happy. Im not dying to make the jump just because its the NFL.

Of course he ended up on Hard Knocks a few years later.

Some of the colours are noticeably brighter than others when diverse with medium (Pthalo blue looks splendid for develop, while primary yellow tends to look flat)-They don't hold up to the test of time well, the lightfastness is not splendid but definitely best than additional apprentice grade paints.I urge these for:-New painter-Experimentation with new techniques-Family/teenagers who wish to initiation painting in acrylic (do not gift medium with this kit, wait to see how they feel about the paints first)I do not urge these for:-Art students and hobbyist painters (you need way more paint than this so just buy the bigger tubes and save money)-Paintings you intend to give as a gift (or keep)-Paintings you intend to sell-Anyone past "apprentice" level as these are apprentice grade paints.
